How to Remove a Bathroom Mirror and Light

You may want to remove your existing mirror and mirror light in order to paint or tile the wall behind it. Our expert step-by-step guide will help you to successfully complete this task.

Step 1

Before doing anything that involves electricity, turn of the power at the mains. Make sure everyone at home is aware of the danger of turning the electricity back on while you work.

Remove Mirror

The method for mirror removal will depend on how the mirror has been attached to the wall. In this case the mirror is hanging on hooks, so it can be simply lifted up and off the wall. Some mirrors may need to be unscrewed from the wall.

Remove any cover from the light and then remove the light bulb.

Unscrew Light

Using a drill or screwdriver, carefully unscrew the screws holding the light to the wall.

Pull Out Light

Pull the light fixture out from the wall so you can see the wires.

Step 6

Check for Power

Check the connection with a phase tester to make sure no power is running to the light. If no power is detected, use a screwdriver to disconnect the light from the wires at the connecting block.

Remove Fixings

Remove the old fixings from the wall, leaving just the wires extruding from the wall. Your bathroom wall is now ready for a new mirror and light.
