How to Hang Curtains

Hanging curtains gives a room a cosy and homely feel. It provides privacy, heat insulation and personal touch. If you haven’t already installed a curtain pole, refer to our guide How to Install a Curtain Rail. Our tips will help you hang curtains like a professional.

Step 1

Place Rings & End Caps onto Pole

Place Rings & End Caps onto Pole

Firstly you will need to ensure there are enough curtain rings for your chosen curtains before you attach the end caps; this will depend on the width of the curtains. The general rule is a ring for every 4-6 inches. If the curtains are made of heavy fabric you should use more rings. Divide the number of rings provided into two. Place half the rings on the right hand side of the rail and the other half on the left hand side. Attach the end caps to the curtain pole and hang the pole onto its support brackets. Keeping one curtain ring on the outer side of each of the rail support posts will keep the edge of the curtain secured as the curtains are pulled shut.

Step 2

Attach Curtains

Plastic hooks need to be attached to the curtain heading tape so that the curtain can be attached to the rings on the pole. Gather the heading tape by pulling the threads at the end. This gathers the curtain and gives your curtain a nice, even appearance. When you are happy with the gather of your curtain, tie a knot in the strings. Attach one plastic hook for every curtain ring at suitable intervals. Thread the plastic curtain hooks on to the curtain heading tape at the top of the curtain. The curtain can now be hung by threading the hooks on to each of the curtain rings, one hook for each ring.
